And the browser issues start already
(10/02/2005): Well about 5 minutes after the site goes live and I discover that the navigation menu system I used (son of suckerfish dropdowns) to try out does not work in Safari or Internet Explorer on the Mac. Joy! I suspect there are quite a few other browsers that do not work as well or cause display issues as the whole site is done in css and <div> based layout, but as its my personal site on which I wanted to do some research on coding such a beast I don't really mind too much. There are two alternative solutions I have provided, I'm kind like that.
- A free piece of advice: Upgrade to a proper web browser you weirdos! Firefox I would recommend, there are others of course.
- I've added a sitemap, so at least you can see whats here on the site if you do insist on using old, or crap technology.
A new site. A new beginning!
(10/02/2005): The new and improved ..... Wrecksjoint. This one is written a fair bit better I hope, all css based (as much as I can keep it), and a few more accessibility options. Not as yet any new content I am afraid, but an overhall of the old site was long overdue since it had been around since about mid 2001. Lets face it my last update was over two and a half years ago, time flys when you are a lazy git it seems! I'll try and keep the updates a bit more frequent I promise. In the mean time, all the old content and artwork should be available.
What has happened in the last couple of years, in gaming well I have stopped playing quake 3, (although it occasionally gets a dust off for a round or two of instagib) have played more hours of various final fantasy games than I care to imagine, even more time than that playing Neverwinter Nights where for the last year and a bit MerpUK has been my home, where I have met some excellent friends and all around great bunch of players. Now after being sneakily persuaded to give the European City of Heroes beta a whirl by Strawp I think I will be spending a lot of time there (on the Union server it looks like) between my MerpUK gaming sessions. The game does truely rock as they say, it's the first game I have actually been excited about in about 2 years which says something it's that damn well put together. Anyway, how many other games can you be happily fighting away with an uber powered thug and out of nowhere a fork lift truck comes sailing past your head crashing into the enemy sent express delivery by one of your team or you giggle like a six year old as you hit some evil doer clean off the top of a skyscraper. I think it was Mr. Strawp actually who put it like this : 'In other MMORPGs, who wants to start by fighting bloody rats, bats and small furry animals. Here you start out by walloping thugs, and the bad guys straight from the word go'. No messing, just plain good hero fun. I would seriously consider giving it a try if you are thinking of going for the more in fashion World of Warcraft or something similar, City of heroes is the breath of fresh air that this game genre has been waiting for.
Artwork wise, well haven't done much outside of work so hoping to get more done soon, I feel the urge coming back. I have spent the last while getting my coding skills back up to scratch after too much time stuck churning out the same old thing with no time to learn new tricks. About time I say!
See you all soon I hope - Wreck
